AGL Resources' Jefferson Island Storage & Hub Donates $60,000 to Three Erath, LA Schools to Help Rebuild after Hurricanes
ERATH, LA – Dec. 15, 2005
Representatives from the state of Louisiana and Pivotal Energy Development's (Pivotal) Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, (JISH), a division of Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG), today presented $60,000 in donations to three schools in Erath, Louisiana to assist their rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"AGL Resources is the kind of company that cares about its employees and the schools and communities where they live," said Senator Nick Gautreaux."I'm pleased to join them in making a public contribution to rebuilding the schools in Erath and demonstrating our commitment to the local community."
Gautreaux and Louisiana State Representative Troy Hebert joined Dana Grams, senior vice president of Business Development at Pivotal, the AGL Resources' business unit that manages JISH, David Jewell, vice president of operations at JISH and JISH employees Joe Donowho and Jason Mire, at Erath Middle School in presenting a $20,000 check from the AGL Resources Private Foundation to the principal at each of the following schools: Dozier Elementary School, Erath Middle School and Erath High School.
"Our hearts went out to our employees, friends and neighbors in Erath during Hurricane Rita – one of the most destructive storms to ever hit the community," said Grams. "We were able to quickly rebuild at JISH, but know that is not the case for most of the area. Giving to the local schools closest to Jefferson Island seemed one of the best ways to help and show we care."
A company-wide fundraising campaign got underway at AGL Resources immediately following Hurricane Katrina and continued after Hurricane Rita. To date, approximately $450,000 has been raised from employees, retirees and the AGL Resources Private Foundation. In addition to helping to rebuild the schools in Erath, these donations will be used to help rebuild a community center in New Orleans and to assist American Red Cross and United Way hurricane relief efforts along the Gulf Coast.
"I'm pleased to see the Pivotal contributions go to the Erath schools," said Herbert. "Local business must join state and federal efforts to rebuild the schools and other vital community organizations."
Located near the Henry Hub at Erath, Louisiana in Vermillion and Iberia Parishes, JISH is a high-deliverability natural gas storage facility capable of multiple inventory cycles per year. The facility, which has eight employees, consists of two salt dome gas storage caverns with 10,000 million decatherms (MDth) total capacity, and about 7,211 MDth of working gas capacity.
AGL Resources acquired JISH on Oct. 1, 2004. JISH is currently fully subscribed, with 17 customers utilizing firm, interruptible, wheeling, as well as park and loan services.
